The debate on which city Nasreddin Hoca was born in still continues. Some scholars argue that he was born in 1208 in Hortu village near town Sivrihisar.
Based on the information in Evliya Celebi's book Seyahatname some researchers state that he was born in Aksehir. First, he studied religion in Sivrihisar and Konya. Later on, he moved to Aksehir to study under notably scholars of the time.
He served as Kadi (Muslim judge), teacher and secretary from time to time until 1284 which is the date of his death. The year 1996 was proclaimed "Nasreddin Hoca year" by UNESCO which increased the research about him.
